Paramakudi villagers oppose video shows
By Our Staff Reporter
RAMANATHAPURAM, JULY 13. Volunteers of the DMK in this district
have opposed the Government's decision to organise video shows of
the June 30 arrest of the former Chief Minister, Mr. M.
Karunanidhi, in rural areas, and to telecast the clippings
through cable TV channels.
People belonging to two villages in the Paramakudi union asked
the Information and Public Relations Department not to organise
the shows in their villages last night. The department could
organise the video shows only in three villages because of
resistance from the people who told the organisers that the
memories of `police excesses' committed during the arrest of
former Chief Minister still haunted them.
The department, had issued oral orders to officers concerned that
they organise the video shows every day at least in 15 villages,
according to sources.
Screening at Thiruvaiyaru
In the Thiruvaiyaru panchayat union, in Thanjavur district, the
tapes were screened from the video van of the Information and
Public Relations Department at 10 places today.
