Cancel summit, says VHP

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JULY 13. Some of the Sangh Parivar outfits like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad today warned the Government and the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, that India's unilateral ``concessions'' to Pakistan would prove to be dangerous for the security of the country. The VHP demanded the cancellation of the summit, which it described as a ``meaningless exercise.''

What seemed to have specially upset the VHP leaders is the interview given by the Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, to a Gulf newspaper, virtually denigrating and rejecting the Shimla Agreement and the Lahore Declaration. Addressing the press, the VHP leader, Acharya Dharmendra, suggested that the Kashmir problem could only be solved through the way favoured by Gen. Musharraf, war.

A good beginning: RSS

UNI reports:

The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) today termed the India- Pakistan summit as a good beginning for the future and said it would provide an opportunity to resolve the Kashmir imbroglio and other issues between the two neighbours. ``It is not possible to resolve all the issues in one meeting only, but it is a good beginning for the future,'' said the RSS spokesperson, Mr. M.G. Vaidya.
