Protest by Manipur women
IMPHAL, JULY 10 Women organised sit-in-protests at many places in
the four valley districts of Manipur today demanding that the
Centre withdraw the ceasefire from the State instead of giving
assurances to review it.
As the overall situation in the State inched towards normalcy the
district authorities relaxed curfew for 13 hours today from 0500
hrs.
Meanwhile, the newly-formed All Political Parties Forum of
Manipur has welcomed the Prime Minister's assurance given to an
all-party meeting to review the ceasefire extension with the
(NSCN-IM).
Forum chairman Col.H.Bhubon Singh, MLA, has sent a letter to Mr.
Vajpayee inviting him to visit Manipur and urged him to effect
the review of the ceasefire before July 31.
The Women's United Development Organisation, Manipur, has urged
the Governor to release the arrested AMSU leaders unconditionally
without holding them responsible for the June 18 incident and
also requested him to lift the curfew.
