Corpn. to crack down on unauthorised abattoirs, litterbugs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 10. The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has decided to invoke the provisions of the Kerala Municipalities Act to prevent unauthorised slaughter and littering of streets and other public places in the city. An official pressnote quoting the Corporation Secretary here today said special squads had been constituted to monitor the situation at the ward-level and take stern action against illegal slaughter houses and traders and other people found littering public places.

The pressnote said it had come to the notice of the Corporation that people were dumping garbage and construction debris on the streets without using the garbage bins. It said such people would be fined Rs.2,000 under the provisions of the Municipalities Act.

The pressnote added that unauthorised slaughter houses were operating at many places in the city. It directed that slaughter of animals should be done only at the Corporation's abattoir at Kuunukuzhy. Violations will invite a fine of Rs.5,000.
