Chiranjeev in joint third spot

NEW DELHI, JULY 7. Chiranjeev Milkha Singh fired in a six-under 66 on the third day of the Jyuken Sangyo Hiroshima Open golf tournament at the Hiroshima Country Club in Hiroshima on Saturday.

Chiranjeev, who was placed at the 14th position at the end of the first round on Thursday, was sharing the third spot with Bunchu Ruangkit of Thailand and local golfer Kosaku Makisaka at eight- under. Keiichiro Fukabori of Japan was in the lead with an aggregate of 10-under.

Commencing the round from the tenth tee, Chiranjeev collected two birdies in the first nine holes. The Chandigarh- based pro capitalised on the fine start with birdies on the first, second, eighth and ninth holes to round off in style.

``I am very happy with the way I played the par-5s. I made birdies on each of them. Even my putting is much better, '' said Chiranjeev, who needed just 26 putts on Saturday.

The second day's play was abandoned due to rain. Depending on the conditions, the organisers will decide on whether to conduct 18 or 36 holes on Sunday. The prize money will be reduced to 75 percent if the title is decided on the basis of three rounds.

The scores: Keiichiro Fukabori (Jpn) (67, 67) 134; Nobuhito Sato (Jpn) (70, 65) 135; Chiranjeev Milkha Singh (Ind) (70, 66), Bunchu Ruangkit (Tha) (68, 68), Kosaku Makisaka (Jpn) 136.
