Petrol bomb attack on S.S Chandran's house

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JULY 6. Two unidentified youths hurled petrol bombs at the residence of Mr. S. S. Chandran, comedian and AIADMK member, at Saligramam here last night. No one in the house was injured.

According to the police, around 8-30 p.m. the two-wheeler borne gang hurled the bombs at the house in Rajaji Colony and fled. As the bottle filled with kerosene was thrown on the main gate, there was not much of damage. Except Mr. Chandran, all family members were in the house then.

Only a couple of days ago, did a similar incident occur at the residence of Ms. Vijayashanthi, actress. The Virugambakkam police are investigating.

The Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary, Ms. Jayalalithaa, condemned the attack on Mr. Chandran's house.

In a statement, she said DMK men were trying to create a panic situation using petrol bombs against AIADMK men. She promised action against the culprits.

The DMK men, who were talking of democratic norms, were indulging in intimidatory acts. Those who were raising their voice in support of justice were being targeted, Ms. Jayalalithaa said.

People knew full well that the DMK was sowing the seeds of violence and trying to scare those speaking out for justice, she said.

In this context, she pointed out that all those held in connection with the arrest of the former Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, had been freed.
