Suman Krishan Kant elected MDS chief

NEW DELHI, JULY 6. Ms. Suman Krishan Kant, wife of the Vice- President, Mr. Krishan Kant, has been unanimously elected president of the Mahila Dakshata Samiti (MDS) for the fifth time.

An official release announcing her election today said Ms. Suman Krishan Kant had been in the forefront of women's movement and championed the cause of women for the last 50 years.

The MDS was founded in 1977 and for the last 25 years the organisation had been working in the field of empowerment and uplift of women. She had held the post of president of the organisation since 1993.
