Minister's bias showed
Sir, - The Delhi press conference of Mr. Arun Jaitley showed his
bias. The Law Minister not only lacked tact but also professional
ethics. It looks as though he wanted an engineered report and
that the ex-Governor was not willing to give one. The Governor
has to necessarily depend upon the bureaucracy of the State.
Without grasping this, passing critical remarks on a former judge
of the Supreme Court is nothing but bias.
Yet another point was the arrest of the two Central Ministers. He
did not place before the press the sequence of events that led to
the arrests. He gave the impression that just because a person
happened to be a Central Minister, he can do anything against the
law and get away with it. He also made sweeping statements on the
freedom of the press and the police warning on curbing the
telecast of a private channel. There is no dearth of the freedom
of the press in India. In Tamil Nadu a media war is on. The Law
Minister should have been better prepared for the press meet. To
set matters right, the Prime Minister should order an independent
probe by the CBI.
