Bring out truth: Elangovan

By Our Special Correspondent

MADURAI, JULY 3. The Congress has called for efforts to bring out the truth behind the incidents surrounding the arrest of the former Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi.

Talking to newsmen here today, Mr. E. V. K. S. Elangovan, TNCC president, however could not specify what kind of efforts were to be taken and by whom but insisted that it was necessary to bring out the truth as conflicting versions were being beamed by two private television channels. In this context, the TNCC president recalled the late Kamaraj's observation that the DMK and the AIADMK were no different from each other (`ore kuttayil ooriya mattaigal').

Refusing to go into the details of the Friday midnight events, Mr. Elangovan said the manner of arrest of the former Chief Minister was condemnable.

When the DMK was in power, Ms. Jayalalitha was arrested only after the proper summons were issued, during daytime and was allowed to take her own time to come out of her residence.

However, the recall of the Governor was not acceptable, Mr. Elangovan said. Ms. Fatima Beevi had to leave as she did not submit a report on the lines expected by the Union Government, he said. Also use of Article 356 (President's rule) would not be acceptable to the Congress.
