Amar Vilas to host Musharraf
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JULY 3. Pakistan's President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf,
will stay in the Amar Vilas hotel during the India-Pakistan
summit in Agra while the Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee, will
reside in the Jaypee group's Palace Hotel.
The decision was taken after consultations between the Indian
authorities and a two-member Pakistani ``advance team'',
comprising the chief of protocol, Brig. (retd.) Mian Khalid
Habib, and the chief security officer, Col. Mohammad Ilyas,
official sources here said.
Three hotels, all close to the Taj Mahal including the Amar Vilas
and the Jaypee Palace, had been shortlisted for the summit and
associated activities. Interaction with the media will take place
at Mughal Sheraton, the third hotel shortlisted.
The Amar Vilas hotel borrows the best of architecture from the
various periods of medieval Indian history. Apart from the
Presidential suite, 25 rooms have been made available for the
guests. The Taj Mahal can be viewed from all the rooms in the
hotel. Golf carts have been placed around and feverish activity
is visible to give these hotels a facelift.
