By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JULY 3. The U.K. Deputy Prime Minister and First
Secretary of State, Mr. John Prescott, arrives here tomorrow on a
day's official visit, the first British ministerial tour here
since the British general election.
Mr. Prescott will hold discussions on climate change and
bilateral issues with senior Ministers and officials.
In the previous Tony Blair Cabinet, he was Secretary of State for
Environment, Transport and the regions as well as the Deputy
Prime Minister.
He retains the latter designation but has also been given the
newly-created post of First Secretary of State, though his areas
of jurisdiction have not been clearly outlined.
He will meet the External Affairs Minister, Mr. Jaswant Singh,
and the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Brajesh
Mishra, as well as the Power Minister, Mr. Suresh Prabhu.
He will also meet the British Business Group.
