Stern action sought against DMK men

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, JUNE 30. Mr. A. Anbalagan, MLA and secretary of the Puratchi Thalaivi Peravai has called upon the administration to take stern action against the DMK leaders and volunteers who had dislocated the normal life of the people today.

In a statement, he said that when in the recent past the AIADMK general Secretary, Ms. Jayalalithaa, was arrested, volunteers of the AIADMK did not resort to any violence as per the instructions of the party. But now, as a result of the high drama the DMK chief and his retinue had staged during the arrest, the normal life of people had been disturbed.

He said that when Ms. Jayalalithaa was arrested on false and frivolous charges foisted on her by the then Karunanidhi government, she had not resisted the arrest and instead extended full cooperation to the police to enable them to discharge their duty. She was also very keen that there should be no outbreak of any untoward incidents then. The then DMK government here, however, held scores of volunteers without any reason or rhyme.

When police went today to arrest Mr. Karunanidhi in connection with the alleged scam involved in the construction of bridges, the men in uniform were assaulted. But a high drama was staged giving the impression that the police had assaulted the leader and the Central Ministers.

Violence had also broken out in fits and starts at several places because of the calculated misprojection.
