Naidu condemns arrest

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI, JUNE 30. The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu today strongly condemned the `midnight' arrest of his former Tamil Nadu counterpart, Mr. M. Karunanidhi by the police and said that it was nothing short of an act of `political vengence.'

Talking to mediapersons at Tirupati where he arrived on a flying visit to kickstart his party, TDP's campaign for the local body elections, Mr. Naidu said that even assuming that there were charges against him in the fly-over cases, where was the need for such a dastardly midnight operation when there were other usual legal and statutory procedures available to take action against him. He could have been arrested in the morning. He is very much residing in Chennai and is not going to run away. Afterall he was the former Chief Minister until a month or two ago and this is certainly not the way how he should have been treated, Mr. Naidu said.
