Pleasant concert at London
THE FRIENDS of Jaffna Hospital in London had recently organised a
Carnatic vocal concert by Bhushany Kalyanaraman at Sivayogam
Hall, Muthumaari Amman temple, in South-West London. It was a
charity effort with a part of the proceeds going to the hospital.
Bhushany Kalyanaraman started the concert with a Kanada varnam
followed by ``Karimugavaratha'' in Nattai and ``Sabapathikku'' in
Abhogi. The raga alapana in Bhairavi brought out the special
features of Thanjavur Kalyanaraman's tradition. Madurai T.
Sivaganesan (violin), S. Balachander (mridangam) and Bangalore R.
N. Prakash (ghatam) provided able support.
Earlier, Dr. S. Navarathnam, president, Friends of Jaffna
Hospital, addressed the gathering. Dr. Rajah, former senior
doctor of the hospital, inaugurated the function.
