CDR organising brain clinics

HYDERABAD, JUNE 28. The CDR Hospital is organising brain clinics on Thursdays and Sundays to offer preventive and predictive diagnostic and treatment solutions for brain-related diseases.

A fee of Rs. 5,990 would be charged, as against the normal rate ranging from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 16,000, for three to five MRI studies and a one-year free check-up. Dr. C. Dayakar Reddy, chairman of the hospital, told a press conference here on Thursday that the brain clinics -- to function between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. -- would offer not only a comprehensive brain examination but also tissue chemistry, blood vessels and flow, stroke imaging, function evaluation and skull scan.

The brain examination would be useful to screen, predict or diagnose stroke, epilepsy, brain cancers, movement disorders, dementia, skill evaluation and reversible or irreversible brain damage. Dr. Reddy explained that one could know/evaluate risk factors, detect diseases early, reduce the risk factors and avoid long-term disability at the clinics.

He said the clinical team at the clinics would comprise a neurophysician, neurosurgeon, psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, paediatrician, paediatric neurophysician and an oncologist. Besides, the hospital would organise appointment with any leading specialist of the patient's choice in the State free of charge for one year.

Persons having certain risk factors and specific symptoms could consult the team. They should register one hour before the consultation timings. More details could be obtained on phone Nos. 6595900 or 6666445.

The risk factors are headache, blurred vision, double vision, blindness, deafness/hearing loss, speech problems, smell disturbances, numbness, memory loss, sleep disturbances, imbalance, behavioural problems, depression, loss of bladder/bowel control, sexual dysfunction, weakness/paralysis of one or more portions of the body, inability to walk or move, jerks, involuntary movements, vertigo, tinnitus, language, gait problems, burning feet/face, excessive salivation, hoarseness of voice and loss of thinking.
