Peace at any cost
Sir, - All political parties and sensitive citizens should
support the Prime Minister in settling the Kashmir problem by
making use of the visit of Gen. Pervez Musharraf. Peace at any
cost should be our approach. During the last 50 years, we have
spent thousands of crores of rupees and also sacrificed thousands
of soldiers and civilians.
The only feasible solution is to trifurcate Jammu and Kashmir,
give Union Territory status to the Ladakh region, create a Jammu
State and allow people of the Valley to join Pakistan or become
an independent nation with Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. A suitable
relationship with India and Pakistan can be worked out.
By making a compromise, India will gain the goodwill of the whole
world, which is disgusted with the Kashmir problem cropping up at
every international forum. The world will heave a sigh of relief
when this endless madness is stopped. Let us sacrifice some
territory for the sake of peace and harmony with our neighbours,
all of whom, except Maldives, are hostile to us.
Prof. N.S. Ramaswamy,
