Mock Internet auction held

PONDICHERRY, JUNE 25. With a view to educating the prospective
bidders on the auction of arrack and toddy licences through
Internet, the Excise Department has conducted a mock auction at
the Bharathidasan Government College for Women and the Town Hall
here recently.
Mr. G. Ranganathan, Deputy Collector, Excise, said here today
that the licences for arrack shops would be held on June 27 and
28 and for toddy shops on June 29.
There would be staggering of time in the Pondicherry and Karaikal
regions. Auction would be held in the Pondicherry region for 56
arrack shops as licences for 26 shops had been renewed under the
earlier system of renewal on payment of 15 per cent more than the
kist amount by shopowners.
Licences for 53 Toddy shops had been renewed and auction would
held be for 33 shops.
In the Karaikal region, licences for nine of 29 shops would be
auctioned. Licences for six toddy shops would also be auctioned.
Booklets in Tamil containing the procedure to be adopted in
bidding were also distributed.
