Bangalore's distinguished economist honoured
BANGALORE, JUNE 25. The ``Ad Honorem'' doctorate degree in
Economic Sciences, was recently conferred on Dr.K.Puttaswamaiah,
a distinguished economist from Bangalore, by The International
Institute for Advanced Economics in Italy, for his contribution
to Economic Science, and his distinguished career as an applied
economist.
He was invited by the Roskilde University in Copenhegen in
Denmark to attend an international conference on ``Technology and
production systems in the context of globalisation, EU and world
development,'' in which a special function was organised to
confer the degree. Professor Vittorangelo Orati, Professor in the
International Institute and the Rector was present to confer the
degree, along with professors from Roskilde and other
universities in Europe, and those who participated in the
international conference.
Dr. Puttaswamaiah was also conferred with the title of "Emeritus
Professor in Applied Economics" of the International Institute.
He was nominated as the Chairman of the International Advisory
Board. Dr.Puttaswamaiah is said to be the first distinguished
economist from India to receive these honours from the European
body.
He was earlier a senior official in the Planning Department of
the Karnataka Government with four decades of experience in
planning, project preparation, evaluation and so on. Currently,
he is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal for
Applied Economics and Econometrics being published by the Rutgers
University, New Jersy, U.S. The journal was founded by Dr.
Puttaswamaiah 10 years ago, and it has won the appreciation of
leading economists in the world including Nobel laureates who are
on the Advisory Board of the journal.
Dr. Puttaswamaiah has over 50 books to his credit and the latest
book published by Rutgers University is in memory of Professor
John Hicks with a foreword by Prof. Paul A.Samuelson.
