BDA razes 45 buildings at Nandini Layout

BANGALORE, JUNE 23. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) on
Saturday took up demolition of unauthorised constructions in a
big way at Nandini Layout and recovered property worth about Rs.
five crores.
Mr. Jayakar Jerome, Commissioner of the BDA, said that 45
buildings, which were illegally constructed on BDA land, were
demolished. These included a bar and restaurant and several other
business establishments. The BDA had struggled for eight years to
recover these properties.
Mr. Jerome, who was present at the site, said several earth
moving equipment were utilised in the operation and the debris
was cleared immediately by a fleet of tippers.
The operation lasted over six hours and was peaceful barring a
minor case of resistance by put up some vested interests and a
councillor of the area. A police case has been registered against
him and 50 others.
