Vigil in Bhopal
By Our Staff Correspondent
BHOPAL, JUNE 20. The police were maintaining a tight vigil in old
Bhopal today after yesterday's mob violence at a local cinema
hall in connection with the screening of the newly-released film
``Gadar''.
A large mob armed with petrol bombs and swords, allegedly led by
the District Youth Congress president, Mr. Arif Masood, had gone
on a rampage yesterday afternoon damaging cars and setting two-
wheelers parked inside the Lily Talkies premises here on fire by
hurling petrol bombs. They were protesting against the screening
of the film.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC have been enforced in
some police station areas of old Bhopal. Riot control vehicles
and Rapid Action Force (RAF) were today pressed into action today
to keep the situation under control, particularly at two cinema
halls - Lily Talkies and Bhopal Talkies - now showing ``Gadar.''
The security arrangements at both these cinema halls were stepped
up and cinema enthusiasts had to wait in long queues as they were
frisked before being allowed to enter the hall.
