APIIT ties up with S.D. Education Society
THE ASIA Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT),
Malaysia, a premier institute of excellence with a complete
portfolio in IT education, will soon set up base in the City. The
company has partnered with S.D. Educational Society, and more
tie-ups are in the offing all over the country.
The new institutes formed out of partnerships in India will
provide IT education and training, consultation, and research and
development activities. The degree programme is aimed at
producing graduates, who will contribute in design, development
and implementation of technology solutions to meet the ever-
changing needs of the country.
The focus of the institute, according to its officials, will be
to inculcate professionalism, which will boost the students'
employment potential. The students will have specialised options
-- pursuing higher level studies, joining the IT and business
world -- to choose from, besides customised learning programmes
for working professionals.
APIIT has adopted a cooperative learning method to enable
students to keep up with changing technology by working together
in project teams. The campus will have the option for part-time
work and the students can work for a maximum of two hours a day
with a stipend of Rs. 50 per hour.
The institute will offer e-applications such as online lecture
consultation, web timetable, online feedback system, online
appraisal system, job placement system, university placement

Education fair
Add South Africa to the growing list of countries pitching tent
here with their educational avenues. Students can now opt for
undergraduate, honours and masters programmes offered by the
South African University of Natal at the two-day ``Visu
International Education Fair 2001'' beginning at the City's Hotel
Ramashree Comforts on June 21.
A premier institution of South Africa, the University of Natal
offers undergraduate programmes in Nursing, Information Systems,
Business Science, Human Resource Management, Agriculture, Applied
Mathematics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics, Microbiology,
Engineering (Agricultural, Chemical, Civil, Electrical,
Electronic, Mechanical), Media and Communication.
The Honours and Masters programmes offered are in Agriculture,
Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering (Agricultural,
Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical), Land
Surveying, MBA (International Business, Information Systems,
Finance, Marketing), Law, Dietetics, Human Nutrition, Biology,
Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental and Engineering
Geology, Public Health, Family Medicine, Health Sciences
Management and Occupational Health. While a minimum of 60 per
cent marks in plus two is essential for undergraduate courses, a
Bachelor's degree will do for honours and masters' programmes.
The fair will also feature the American Oklahoma City University.
Established in 1904 and accredited by the North Central
Association of Schools and Colleges, the university was given a
good rating by Money magazine recently.
The varsity offers Bachelor's programmes in Arts, Accounting,
Biology, Business Administration, Computer Science, Finance,
History, Music, Mass Communications, MIS, Marketing, Philosophy,
Psychology, Political Science, Sociology and Nursing. Masters
programmes are offered in Liberal Arts, Performing Arts, Business
Administration, Education, Computer Science, Economics and
Criminal Justice Administration.
For the Bachelors programmes, the students should have a TOEFL
score of 550 (213 CBT) SAT, and passed plus two. Masters
programmes are open to students with TOEFL 550 (213 CBT). Those
with GRE and GMAT are preferred. Students who have completed
three-year degree programmes can apply for a Bridge programme in
MBA and MS (Computer Science).
While the Oklahoma City University has opened admissions for
courses that begin in fall 2001 and spring 2002, the University
of Natal has invited applications for its winter 2001 batches.
