State Planning Board reconstituted

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 20. The Cabinet on Wednesday reconstituted the State Planning Board with the Chief Minister, Mr. A. K. Antony, as chairman and the former Chief Secretary, Mr. V. Ramachandran, as Vice-Chairman. The Finance Minister, Mr. K. Sankaranarayanan, the Industries Minister, Mr. P. K. Kunhalikutty, the Revenue Minister, Mr. K. M. Mani, and the Agriculture Minister, Ms. K. R. Gouriamma, will be members of the Board.

Mr. Ramachandran is becoming the Vice-Chairman of the Planning Board for a second time. The Chief Minister told the presspersons after the Cabinet meeting that the non-official members of the Board will be named later. The official members will continue.

The Cabinet, the Chief Minister said, recommended to the Governor the appointment of Mr. Rajan Joseph and Mr. V. K. Beeran, as Additional Advocate Generals.

Further, it decided to constitute a new Department for Parliamentary Affairs. The policy address, to be made by the Governor, Mr. S. S. Kang, in the Assembly on June 29, was approved. About four-and-a-half acres of land at Poojappura in Thiruvananthapuram would be given to the Lal Bahadur Sastri Centre for Science and Technology here for the establishment of a Women's Engineering College, he said.

Replying to questions, the Chief Minister said he was not aware of the allegation that a Minister of his Cabinet had given protection to the forest brigand, Veerappan.
