HC notice to Moopanar

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JUNE 18. The Madras High Court has ordered notices to the TMC president, Mr. G.K. Moopanar, and Mr. N. Ramasamy Udayar, who are the sole trustees of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Charitable Trust, on a civil suit filed by the Tamizhaga Rajiv Congress president, Mr. Vazhapadi K. Ramamurthy.

Mr. Justice A. K. Rajan ordered the notice of motion returnable in two weeks, when Mr. Ramamurthy's petition for framing a scheme for appointment of trustees to the trust, which originally had seven trustees, came up today.

Formed in 1954, the trust has property worth Rs. 10 crores including the Sathiyamoorthy Bhavan on General Peters Road and the Kamaraj Bhawan on Anna Salai, according to the TRC leader.

As per the Declaration of Trust, the trust has to be administered by trustees not exceeding 7, who have to be appointed by the working committee of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.

Owing to several splits in the Congress, beginning in 1969, ``certain difficulties arose in the matter of appointment of trustees'', Mr. Ramamurthy maintained.

``Hence the necessity has arisen wherein a court direction has become necessary for the administration of the trust''.
