HC employee robbed of Rs. 4 lakhs

BANGALORE, JUNE 16. Two motorcycle-borne youths robbed a
Karnataka High Court employee of Rs. four lakhs after diverting
his attention. The incident took place in front of the B.M.S.
Women's College on Bugle Rock Road in Basavanagudi Police Station
limits around 11.30 a.m. on Saturday.
Police said Mr. Manjunath, a ``Group D'' employee of the High
Court, was carrying Rs. four lakhs in a bag. He had kept the cash
bag on the fuel tank of his motorcycle. Two youth who came on a
motorcycle accosted Mr. Manjunath and enquired him about the way
to M.N.Krishna Rao Park. While Mr. Manjunath was showing them
directions, they snatched the cash bag and sped away, police
said.
According to police, Mr. Manjunath had purchased a site and was
carrying the cash to get the site registered in his name. As he
was having the money in the denominations of Rs. 50 and Rs. 100,
he went to a bank to exchange the cash for the notes of higher
denomination. However, when he found that a friend of his, who
worked in the bank was on leave, he did not exchange the cash.
Basavanagudi police have registered a case and are investigating.
