Best of luck, Dawaram
Sir, - It is baffling that even when one volunteers to take up a
challenge there are critics who devalue the offer and effort.
Coming out of his retirement, Mr. Walter Dawaram has accepted the
most risky and unenviable job that a policeman can think of. Both
he and the Tamil Nadu Government deserve to be congratulated for
the bold initiative in mounting an offensive against (forest
brigand) Veerappan.
P.M. Belliappa,
Chennai
Sir, - That a retired IPS officer has come forward to assist the
Government of Tamil Nadu in the operations against Veerappan must
be appreciated. In the past we have seen that IPS officers given
this assignment proved ineffective for more than five years for
some reason or the other. Well planned operations by the
reconstituted Special Task Force will surely yield the desired
results.
N. Srinivasan,
Chennai
Sir, - The appointment of Mr. Walter Dawaram as the chief of the
STF to nab Veerappan is a positive development. The previous
Government ignored him out of political vendetta. Having an
equally aggressive and upright police officer, Mr. H.T.
Sangliana, as his Karnataka counterpart, Mr. Dawaram is bound to
succeed in his new assignment.
Rev. S.J. Walter Sunder Singh,
Kallal (T.N.)
