A correct `no'

Sir, - The Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee's ``no, not at all'' to the demand of the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit for recalling the State Governor proves that he is the ``right man in the wrong party.'' In refusing to accept the people's verdict, the BJP State unit exposes its fascist approach of the party as well as that of the RSS. It is Mr. Vajpayee's non-controversial personality that helped it to come to power with the support of allies. It appears that the BJP Tamil Nadu unit has been pledged to the DMK and is left with no alternative but to tow the line of the DMK.

Sir, - It is sad and shameful on the part of Mr. M. Karunanidhi, DMK president and Mr. Kirubanidhi, Tamil Nadu president of the BJP, to demand the recall of the Governor, Ms. Fatima Beevi, for inviting Ms. J. Jayalalitha to form the Government. By inviting Ms. Jayalalitha and promptly swearing her in, Ms. Fatima Beevi has exemplified the spirit of electoral democracy, respecting the will of the millions of people in the State. Under such circumstances, demanding the recall of the Governor could only be met by organising a signature campaign demanding the retention of Ms. Fatima Beevi as Governor.
