'No copy of Sarkaria report presented to PM'

Mrs. C.K. Gariyali, Secretary to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, writes from New Delhi:

``The Hindu dated 6-6-2001, while reporting in the front page on the meeting of the Hon'ble Chief Minister with the Hon'ble Prime Minister, has mentioned that she presented a copy of the Sarkaria Commission report recommending action against Mr. Karunanidhi to the Prime Minister. This is totally untrue.

It is well known that the objective of the visit of the Chief Minister was to make a customary courtesy call on the Prime Minister and the President after assuming office. She has made use of the opportunity to present a memorandum on issues pending with the Central Government for the personal attention of the Prime Minister. This she has done in the interest of the safety, security and development of Tamil Nadu. I was present during the occasion and so I am sure of the happenings. Definitely, the Hon'ble Chief Minister did not even mention about the Sarkaria Commission report to the Hon'ble Prime Minister, then where is the question of presenting a memorandum on the report.''
