Hindu Munnani demands ban on conversions
By Our Staff Reporter
MADURAI, JUNE 3. The Hindu Munnani will urge the State Government
to impose a ban on conversions and streamline the admissions to
teacher training institutes, the general secretary, Mr. S.S.
Jayaraj, today said.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the third State
conference would he held here on June 30, with the theme being
`conversion, a national threat'.
The Government should ban conversions as in Arunachal Pradesh,
Orissa and Madhya Pradesh. Certain anti- national forces, under
the pretext of protecting the interests of minorities and Dalits,
were fomenting caste differences among the people and
subsequently force them into conversion.
Mr. Jayaraj said the Christians owned 41 of the 75 teacher
training institutes in the State. The Hindus should be allowed to
establish educational institutions on a par with the minorities.
The Government should make admissions to teacher training
institutes adopting a procedure similar to that of professional
courses.
The Hindu Munnani would continue its efforts to light the
`Karthigai Deepam' atop the Tiruparankundram hill temple as
permitted by the court.
The Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalitha, would be invited to
participate in the meet, which will be attended by the Union
Ministers, Ms. Uma Bharathi, and Mr. Pon. Radhakrishnan.
