CM skips speech at gram sabha
By Our Staff Reporter
VANIPENTA (CUDDAPAH DT.), June 2. The Chief Minister, Mr. N.
Chandrababu Naidu, on Saturday agreed to sanction a sluice from
the subsidiary reservoir near D bund of the Telugu Ganga project,
for augmenting irrigation facilities to Vanipenta and adjoining
areas in Mydukur constituency.
Mr. Naidu devoted about two hours for interacting with the
sarpanch, education committee chairman, DWCRA members and some
villagers at the gram sabha at the zilla parishad high school
here and sanctioning some demands of the local people, without
delivering his usual address. On the request of the Mydukur MLA,
Mr. S. Raghurami Reddy, Mr. Naidu sanctioned Rs. 3 lakhs for
undertaking repairs to Yerracheruvu tank in the village and
promised to construct a 30-bed hospital for which public
contribution of about Rs. 1.50 lakhs was assured by the MLA.
He directed the District Collector, Mr. Adhar Sinha, to take up
construction of a bus stand in the village. He also promised to
consider starting of a backward class residential school and
hostel in the Telugu Ganga quarters, which were vacant for
several years.
Mr. Naidu briefly spoke about Neeru-Meeru, Janani, Cheyutha,
Deepam and girl child protection schemes and about the
Government's keenness on economic empowerment of women through
DWCRA. He went round the photo exhibitions organised by the DRDA,
DPAP, the Forest and Agriculture departments and opened the
medical and veterinary camps at the Vanipenta ZP high school.
The Chief Minister, the Collector and the sarpanch, Mr. Jaffer
Hussain, repeatedly called for the education committee chairman,
Mr. Ghouse Lazam, but he came to the dais only after a gap of 15
minutes because he was pushed away by the Superintendent of
Police, Mr. Nalin Prabhat, and some constables later, when he
tried to come towards the dais and was engaged in an argument
with the police.
The Chief Minister presented a bouquet to Ms. Sharmila Parveen,
who stood first in the school in SSC and said she should strive
to top the district in Intermediate. The local medical officer,
Mydukur APSRTC depot manager, university and college teachers
deputed to JB, three education committee chairmen, were not
present although Mr. Naidu called them on the mike to speak to
them.
Mr. Naidu directed the DRDA Project Director, Mr. B. Sarat
Chandra Reddy, to ensure rehabilitation of 500 families of brass
artisans, who are languishing for want of work.
The DWCRA group leader, Mrs. Veerubai, told Mr. Naidu that the
village was facing drinking water scarcity, farmers had no
irrigation water and remunerative prices for groundnut and
turmeric and sought sanction of a water supply scheme for the
area.
The District Panchayat Officer, Dr. G. Sankaraiah, who is the
nodal officer, said only four representations were received
during the 14th phase of Janmabhoomi and one pertaining to old
age pension was sanctioned and the remaining three
representations were rejected. He said 29 persons in Vanipenta
village were suffering from elephantiasis and were being provided
medical treatment.
A heavy bandobust was organised and leaders, presspersons and
people were sent into the gram sabha venue through a metal
detector after checking the area with explosive and landmine
detectors.
The Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Mrs. S. Saraswathi,
also participated.
