Taliban's decree
Sir, - The Taliban regime's decree against Hindus is only going
to further isolate it from other countries. The people of
Afghanistan who are currently facing drought, famine and
starvation are the most affected by the regime's decision.
The External Affairs Minister's statement in this regard is a
welcome one and may provide a temporary comfort to those who wish
to leave Afghanistan. The international community must impose
specific sanctions on the Taliban.
The present sanctions only seem to affect the common man who has
to listen to the ruthless dictums of his ruler. If the sanctions
are specific the international community may achieve something.
Otherwise we may end up seeing the Taliban becoming stronger.
S. Venkata Narayanan,
Secunderabad
