Row over Jayalalitha portrait at Pallavaram council

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, MAY. 31. While the drinking water problem is the most important issue in the Pallavaram municipality, the councillors today fought over where to place the Chief Minister's photograph in the council hall.

At the council meeting, the AIADMK councillors wanted Ms.Jayalalitha's portrait to be placed in the council hall. Some of them objected to its being placed next to the former Chief Minister's photograph and a lengthy debate ensued.

The Chairman, Mr.K. Adaikalam, pleaded for a day's time to `ratify' the matter. However, the AIADMK councillors squatted on the floor and hampered the proceedings, despite repeated pleas to resume their seat.

Following this, the Chairman adjourned the meeting.
