AIADMK protests deviation in nurses posting

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, MAY 26. Mr. D. Ramachandran, elected to the Assembly from Mannadipet, today charged the official machinery with acting arbitrarily, deviating the established practice adopted in posting of nurses in Government hospitals.

Addressing a press conference here, the AIADMK leader said when the Government and political parties were preoccupied with the Assembly polls, the official machinery had taken policy decisions.

For instance, there was an attempt to appoint nurses through open recruitment though candidates, who were trained in the Nurses School here, were available. Mr. Ramachandran said the recruitment rules were also being ``reframed conveniently'' and this would be in contravention of the practice of the Government to post candidates passing out of the training school here.

The official action, inspite of the Election Commission's directive not to take policy decision, was injurious to job- seekers as the open competition inviting applications from other States was not justified.

Mr. Ramachandran also questioned the time table evolved by the State Election Commission (SEC), for preparing the voter list for civic polls, giving time for inclusion or deletion of names during the period between May 28 and June 6. Already, confusion prevailed over the voter list.

When a ministry was being installed, why the haste in preparation of the lists, Mr. Ramachandran asked.

The measure was taken by the SEC without consulting political parties and without informing the ministry that was still in office, he added.
