Karunanidhi takes oath
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, MAY 23. The DMK president, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, re-
elected to the Assembly for the tenth time, today took the oath
as member of the House at a brief ceremony in the chamber of the
pro-tem Speaker, Mr. M. Abdul Latheef.
Mr. Karunanidhi, who did not come to the House yesterday, was
accompanied for the swearing-in by the senior party MLAs, Messrs
Arcot N. Veeraswami, Ko. Si. Mani and K. Ponmudi.
The former Chief Minister, who has been elected from the Chepauk
constituency in Chennai, then signed the register and shook hands
with Mr. Latheef.
To a query by reporters, Mr. Karunanidhi said he would come to
the Assembly and participate in the proceedings, ``whenever
required''.
Asked whether that would be after the Governor's address, he
said, ``my reply is self-explanatory''.
``It will be DMK style'', quipped Mr. Karunanidhi amid laughter
when asked what would be his party's strategy in the Assembly.
