Fonda, Turner split
ATLANTA: Mr. Ted Turner, CNN mogul, and the Oscar-winning
actress, activist and exercise guru, Ms. Jane Fonda, were
formally divorced on Tuesday, ending a 10-year marriage, a lawyer
for Ms. Fonda said. Ms. Fonda, 63, who won best actress academy
awards for ``Klute'' (1971) and ``Coming home'' (1978), married
the CNN founder in December 1991. The pair quickly became
Atlanta's royal couple, but separated more than a year ago. Mr.
Turner, in a statement released by his spokesman, said, ``We will
always remain close friends and I wish Jane all the very best.''
``I feel sadness,'' said Ms. Fonda in a statement read by her
lawyer. ``We shared 10 years together and I will always care for
him. Now it's time to move on and I wish him well.'' Mr. Turner,
62, said recently that Ms. Fonda's decision to become a Christian
was a major reason for their break-up. ``It was a shock,'' said
Mr. Turner, known for his disdain of religion. In a recent
interview Ms. Fonda said, ``One of the things I want to talk
about in my memoirs is the fact that separation or divorce
doesn't necessarily represent failure.''
