By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, MAY 20. A major mishap to the Karaikudi-bound Kamban express was averted by an alert driver of another train who passed the stretch on a parallel track on Saturday night near Madhuranthagam.

According to railway sources, the driver of Pearl City Express, while passing between Panjalam and Olakkur railway stations, saw a huge tree on the parallel metre gauge track. He passed on the information to the railway staff at the Olakkur station.

The Kamban express which was about to cross the stretch a little later was detained at Panjalam railway station and was allowed to proceed only after the tree was removed from the track. The train was delayed for about an hour and half, added the sources.
