Uttaranchal plans Ayurveda university
By Our Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN, MAY 16. A new chapter in the field of ayurveda seems
to be opening up with the Uttaranchal Minister for Finance and
Ayurveda, Dr.Ramesh Pokhriyal `Nishank', announcing that a
university of Ayurveda will be established soon.
Quoting profusely from Vedic texts, Dr.Nishank said ayurveda, if
practised in the right spirit, could heal most dreaded ailments
which, in fact, were the result of the faulty ways of life
adopted by the so-called modern society.
Inaugurating the first Vishal Ayurved Sammelan of the Vishwa
Ayurved Parishad here, Dr.Nishank said the government had decided
to upgrade and rejuvenate the Rishikul Ayurvedic College and the
Gurukul Ayurvedic College at Hardwar. Amid applause from the
delegates Dr.Nishank said the step-motherly treatment to ayurveda
over the past 50 years should be forgotten as a bad dream and
efforts made to make India once again the world leader in
medicine. Try to draw a bigger line instead of making efforts to
show the other medical sciences in poor light, he said.
Describing Uttaranchal as ``an Eden Garden full of miracle
herbs'', Dr.Nishank said experts should now try to identify
important plants which could be cultivated for commercial
exploitation. ``We will not offer anything free but not charge
heavily also,'' he said.
Expressing happiness over the increasing awareness about the
values laid down in ayurveda, Dr.Nishank said the five star
ayurveda clinics coming up in Uttaranchal like the Ananda resort
in Narendra Nagar were proof enough that the time had come to
lead a better life. If people can afford five star clinics, they
will be more than happy to get the same treatment in small clean
setups which could be set up by the enterprising youngsters of
Uttaranchal, he said.
