Spain's offer to Indian students

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MAY 15. Spain has expressed its desire to start a scheme for Indian students to study Spanish and take up practical IT-related assignments in the Spanish speaking world.

The offer was made by the Spanish Minister for Education, Mr. Tomas Villanueva Rodrigues, at a meeting here with the Human Resource Development Minister, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, on Monday.

The two leaders discussed the possibilities of establishing links between the institutes of information technology and management at Gwalior and Allahabad with their counterparts in Castilla Y Leon.

Large Spanish companies have already pledged their support for such a venture, as qualified Spanish speaking IT professionals were in short supply.

Mr. Rodrigues, who is here to pave the way for the Spanish Prime Minister's visit to India later this year, invited Dr. Joshi to participate in a proposed conference of Spanish countries on IT.

Mr. Bill Gates of Microsoft is likely to be one of the participants.
