New envoy to Russia
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, MAY 15. The former Foreign Secretary, Mr. K.
Raghunath, has been appointed India's Ambassador to Russia.
Prior to becoming Foreign Secretary, Mr. Raghunath served as
Secretary (East) in the External Affairs Ministry. Both as
Secretary (East) and as Foreign Secretary, he took a keen
interest in building close ties not only with Russia but also
with the former Soviet republics of Central Asia. He was also
involved in handling the Afghan crisis after the Taliban made
major gains in that country.
