CBI to scrutinise fresh Swiss documents
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, MAY 15. The Bofors case investigations appear to be
casting a long shadow on the three Hinduja brothers. After
getting a fresh set of documents from the Swiss authorities on
transfer of money, the CBI today questioned the three Hinduja
brothers - Mr. Gopichand, Mr. Srichand and Mr. Prakash Hinduja.
The three were called to the CBI headquarters and questioned for
nearly three hours on the transfer of money from their coded
Swiss bank accounts - Lotus, Tulip and Mont Blanc.
According to the CBI spokesman, the three brothers were examined
separately by the investigating officers. While Mr. Srichand and
Mr. Gopichand are British nationals, Mr. Prakashchand has
embraced Swiss nationality.
The two - Mr. Srichand and Mr. Gopichand - got a reprieve from
the Supreme Court to go abroad while Mr. Prakashchand was asked
to stand guarantee for his two brothers. Sources in the CBI said
examination of the three brothers was over for the time being and
added that Mr. Srichand and Mr. Gopichand were leaving for London
tonight.
The CBI would retain the fresh set of Swiss documents for further
scrutiny. The spokesman said the documents have already been
shown to the Special CBI Judge, Mr. R.L. Chugh, who is hearing
the Bofors case.
The Letter Rogatory (LR) for transfer of the documents was sent
to the Swiss authorities in June last. The spokesman said there
were no more documents to be transferred as of now from Swiss
authorities.
