Rivals meeting in Pondy House after 11 years

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, MAY 14. The AIADMK leader and former Pondicherry Chief Minister, Mr.D. Ramachandran, who has wrested Mannadipet from the PMC, is all set to meet on the floor of the House his adversary Mr.R.V. Janakiraman (DMK), also a former Chief Minister, after a gap of 11 years.

When Mr.Ramachandran headed the DMK-led coalition in 1990, Mr.Janakiraman was PWD Minister. Differences cropped up between them and Mr. Ramachandran quit the DMK and joined the AIADMK. When he contested the 1991 poll in Mannadipet, he was defeated by the Congress.

He again contested in Nellithope on AIADMK ticket and was defeated by Mr. Janakiraman.

With the Congress trying to rope the AIADMK into the secular front headed by it, there is every chance of the AIADMK being accommodated in a coalition ministry.

In that event, Mr.Ramachandran might be given a position.

Initially, the AIADMK leadership did not nominate Mr. Ramachandran in Mannadipet. Following protest from the partymen, the high command fielded him there.
