We are the underdogs: Vijay Amritraj
BANGALORE, MAY 14. Legendary tennis player Vijay Amritraj has
said India will be the underdogs against the United States in the
Davis Cup tie in September. He however, said that India has a
chance of winning it.
``If we had played at home, I would give it a 50-50 chance. Sine
we are playing away, I would say, we are the underdogs. My
feeling is that the end result will be 3-2. So it could go either
way,'' he told newspersons on Sunday after he was felicitated by
the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) on his
appointment as UN ambassador of peace.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA), the All India Tennis
Association (AITA) and the KSLTA had approached him for getting
the dates of the World doubles championship shifted, since it
coincides with the Afro-Asian Games.
He hoped that the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), the
governing body of the men's tennis, would be in a position to
shift the dates of the World doubles championship, scheduled
between November five and 11, as it was clashing with the
inaugural Afro-Asian Games in New Delhi he added. - UNI
