National sub-juniors from today

BANGALORE, MAY 14. The country's top sub-junior chess talent will
assemble in the city to participate in the National tournament at
the Tuberculosis Research Institute here from May 15 to 22.
The tournament will conducted in four groups - boys Under-12 &
Under-14 and girls Under-12 and Under-14. The registration
process was underway till Monday afternoon and about 400 entries
had been received in the four categories.
The tournament is being played in the new format and matches will
be of one and a half hour duration for the first 40 moves and
after this, there will be only a half hour provision till the
conclusion of the match.
There will be two rounds of matches every day. Given the large
number of entries, the four groups would be split up for three
groups to play two rounds and the fourth group to play only one
round. The number of rounds will be changed according to
rotation.
Some of the best talent in the country will present during the
tournament. In the boys under -14 section Deepan Chakravarthy of
Tamil Nadu, S. Dutta of Goodricke Academy (West Bengal), Prateek
Sengupta of Jharkand, Sunil Rangarajan of Karnataka and R.
Siddharth would be seen in action.
In the girls section, Kruthika Nadig of Maharashtra, Rashmi and
Aishwarya Shobhana of Tamil Nadu, J. Megha of Karnataka and P.
Priya would be participating.
In the boys under-12 section, G. Rohit of AP, Vijay Keerthi of
Karnataka, S. Moujamdar and Vishal Shah of Maharashtra, Vijil
Pujari of Gujarat and M. Suraj of Karnataka are among the entries
received thus far.
D. Harita the world under-10 second seed has telephonically
confirmed her entry. Others in the fray are Sowmya Swaminathan
(Mah), Akshitha Bhat (Kar), Priyadarshni and V.K Sindhu (TN) and
Mary Ann Gomes of Goodricke Academy. All these are among the
talented and seeded players whose entries have been received.
Mr. Anthony, International Arbitrer, has been specially deputed
by Mr. Ummer Koya for the tournament. Mr. Utarid will be the
deputy arbitrer.
AICF to conduct enquiry
A message from the All India Chess Federation President, Mr. P.T
Uomer Koya indicates that a four member committee from the AICF
will be in the city during the tournament to conduct an enquiry
into the alleged irregularities of the Karnataka Chess
Association.
Mr. Koya said in a letter that Mr. V.K Rathi, Joint Secretary
AICF, Sqn Ldr Rajendra, Air Force Sports Control Board, Mr. D.V
Sundar, Vice President AICF and Soumen Majumdar, Treasurer, AICF
will head an enquiry committee to hear evidence and complaints
from players, office bearers of associations and organisers of
events about problems with the Karnataka Chess Association.
This is being done to facilitate selection of players for major
forthcoming events. The rift in the State chess had caused a
number of problems and it was to quickly repair the damage that
the enquiry committee was being set-up.
