Govt. aiming at 9 p.c. growth: Sinha
SINGAPORE, MAY 14. The Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant Sinha, said
today the Government was working towards achieving nine per cent
economic growth over the decade.
``Even though India's economy has registered a six per cent plus
growth, the Government has been working toward achieving a nine
per cent growth,'' Mr. Sinha said addressing the Singapore Indian
Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.
He said the Government was commited to the reforms agenda and
liberalisation measures, underaken with a view to reducing
poverty and unemployment.
``Despite differences on some sensitive issues, there was a broad
political consensus on the direction of economic policy
changes,'' Mr. Sinha said referring to the number steps announced
in this direction in the budget. He said the globalisation
process must be seen as an economic fundamental that addressed
the need of all sectors, segments and regions.
Mr. Sinha said it was the responsibility of the Governments to
ensure that the benefits of globalisation reached the poor.
