Ajit Singh calls on Advani

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MAY 14. The Rashtriya Lok Dal president, Mr. Ajit Singh, today called on the Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, fuelling speculation on his plan to join the National Democratic Alliance.

Ironically, Mr. Ajit Singh's meeting with the senior BJP leader came on a day when he issued a virtual show cause notice to a senior party member, Mr. Rashid Masood, quoting the latter indicating the RLD chief's movement towards the BJP.

In his letter to Mr. Masood, Mr. Singh sought an explanation for making ``irresponsible and unfortunate'' statements against him.

When contacted, Mr. Singh confirmed his meeting with Mr. Advani but said it was in connection with several issues that he had to take up as an MP. He also sought to discuss his party's demand for the creation of a separate Harit Pradesh from parts of Western Uttar Pradesh.

Incidentally, Mr. Singh also referred to the demand in Mr. Masood's letter and asserted that as part of preparations for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the party was on the lookout for an understanding with strong political parties which would also extend support to the demand for a Harit Pradesh.
