'Mysterious figure' stalks Ghaziabad

GHAZIABAD, MAY 12. Panic has gripped this industrial township following a spate of attacks by a mysterious figure even as police launched a manhunt to nab what they call a ``mischief maker in disguise.''

The township wears a deserted look with its lively crowded markets downing their shutters at 7 p.m. Police personnel have been deployed across the city to prevent any untoward incident and nab the `mysterious human-like figure.''

Rumours about the ``creature'' such as its superhuman speed and capability to jump 10-20 feet are flying thick and fast in the city.

``There is certainly panic in the city. Senior police officers are taking the rounds and we have deployed a lot of our personnel,'' the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad, Mr. Prashant Kumar said.

``Somebody is playing mischief by wearing a mask. There is absolutely no scientific basis to the stories,'' he said adding ``we are making all possible efforts to nab him.''

The ``creature'' only scratched people and has so far not ``indulged in any loot or fatal attack. ``We have received reports that he has made similar attacks in Gautam Budh Nagar as also Seelampur in north-east Delhi,'' he added.
