Ahluwalia accepts IMF's offer

NEW DELHI, MAY 12. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) today officially confirmed that the Planning Commission Member, Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, would become the first Director of the IMF's independent evaluation office.

``Dr Ahluwalia has accepted the offer of the IMF's Executive Board and will become the first Director of the Fund's Independent Evaluation Office (EVO) effective from August 2001,'' an IMF release said today.

The IMF Executive Board, which had approved setting up an independent EVO in April 2000, decided to offer Dr. Ahluwalia the position of EVO Director on April 13, 2001, the release said. The EVO Director is required to report all the findings of the unit to the IMF Executive Board.
