Doloi demands repoll in entire Keshpur constituency

Kolkata, May 11. (PTI): Rajani Kanta Doloi, Trinamool Congress (TC) candidate of Keshpur Assembly constituency in Midnapore district today demanded repoll in the seat alleging that yesterday's poll there was `a farce and a mockery'.

Doloi, who had earlier wanted to retire from the contest on the plea of CPI(M) terror in the constituency but stayed on in the fray on the request of party chief Mamata Banerjee and EC's assurance of adequate security, faxed a letter to CEC, M S Gill, urging him to cancel the election "which was a farce, a one-sided game and a treachery to democracy''.

Doloi said he had toured the constituency yesterday and found that the security personnel were deliberately kept reserved at Keshpur police station and they were not allowed to march in terror-stricken areas to instill confidence among the voters. "Those who had come to cast their votes in favour of Trinamool Congress were driven out and assaulted. Not only that, some TC men are still in the CPI(M) custody," he said in his letter.

"CPI(M) cadres taking advantage of the electronic mechanism, have completed major portion of polling as proxy voters .... At Khejurbani, a terror-hit area, 97 TC men have been forced at gun- point to join the flag-marching of the CPI(M)," he alleged.
