Preventing pollution
I was walking in the busy bazaar at Trichy recently with my dad.
A rashly driven bus threw heavy dust at us, A few seconds later,
another lorry emanating dark smoke crossed us. A tourist bus with
a blasting air horn followed the lorry and I couldn't hear what
my dad was saying to me. My dad explained that this was pollution
of all kinds.
It is important to keep our environment clean so that there is no
hazard to our lives, the plants and animals, the water we use and
the air we breathe. To keep our environment clean, we should
avoid contamination of the environment with materials that
interfere with our health, the quality of life or the natural
functioning of the ecosystem. The contamination of the earth's
environment is called "Pollution".
There are different types of pollution such as air pollution,
water pollution, soil pollution, pollution due tosolid waste,
pollution due to waste and noise pollution.
Pollution exists in many forms and affects many different aspects
of earth's environment.
The effect of pollution may be immediate or delayed. Primary
effects of pollution occur immediately after occuring of
contamination, such as death of marine plants and wild life after
an oil spill at sea.
Secondary effects may be delayed or may persist in the
environment into the future, perhaps going unnoticed for many
years.
The immediate necessity for keeping the earth's environment clean
is to avoid pollution. In Industrial establishments pollution can
be avoided by various methods, like chemical treatment, providing
tall chimneys, taking away the emissions to isolated areas where
human beings do not live. The Government has formed rules and
regulations and the establishment of Industrial Unit is allowed
only after getting clearance from the Pollution Control Boards to
ensure that the Industry is pollution free. Various private
organisations are also involved in Pollution Control.
As individuals, we can take steps to avoid pollution by growing
more and more trees, keeping our living areas free from dust,
waste , stagnant water and noise.
