Travel in sleep

Dreams are a part of life and everyone has dreams pleasant and unpleasant. They reflect our innermost anxieties and fears and our joys and hopes. Some dreams are remembered because of sweet feelings of joy with which they left me and there are others which are unforgettable because of their nightmarish quality.

One of my favourite dreams is one that fulfills my ambition of becoming a doctor. In my dream last night I found myself studying hard and preparing for the entrance examination and when the results were announced I was in the merit list. My joy knew no bounds as I rushed home to tell the good news to my parents. Then I saw myself graduating standing first among the students. I felt a glow of happiness as an old man came and thanked me profusely for saving his son's life. I found myself in a crowd of people sitting infront of a stage; and there was an award giving function going on. Suddenly my name is announced far the highest award for "excellence in research" for discovering an enzyme which had changed certain earlier held concepts. I moved as in a trace towards the stage and took the award. People shouted "speech! speech!" and I found myself tongue-tied, unable to utter a word and I weeping with happiness.

It was then that my father woke me up saying, "time for school, child, get up." One horrifying dream I often have is that I am standing on top of a mountain and suddenly, I slip and fall. I keep falling down, down helplessly without being able to scream or utter a sound. On all the sides there are sharp edged mountain peaks and I keep falling into a dark abyss, till once again I am awakened, with perspiration.
