GH receives 24 poll-related cases

CHENNAI, MAY 11. The Government General Hospital received 24
election-related cases on Thursday.
The victims suffered minor injuries and were admitted to the
trauma ward for observation, hospital sources said. They would be
discharged tomorrow.
The hospital had prepared a disaster management plan to meet
emergencies arising from violence during the elections today.
Most of the victims were from suburban areas like Tiruvallur and
Sriperambudur, with only about five cases from Chennai.
The hospital had formed a special committee that included doctors
and para-medical staff from medical, surgical and accident
related specialties for the period for the election period.
The medical and para- medical staff would work in double strength
from May 10 to May 13, when the results would be declared, the
sources said.
If necessary, the committee will function till May 14 to meet
emergencies.
The special medical committee was a regular feature during
elections, they said, adding extra precautions had been taken
this time to attend to the victims.
